Quite obviously, I didn't vote for him... (well, his party). The megalomaniac has barely been in the office of his undeserved position of "premier", and he's scrapped the Premier Literary Awards, which is not only the best in the country but so supportive of writers in this state and has done a lot of good. For those outside Queensland (or Australia), here's an article.
For those that have known me for even a little while know I'm a passionate writer. If you could support yourself writing and publishing, I'd do it. I would be doing it! I don't know about other countries, but here for sure, there is no way in hell you can support youself off writing. You could have a couple of books and regular publishing in writers' journals, etc. and still barely feed yourself and pay the rent, so I don't know where delusional people think writers get their money... _{not everyone is a lucky with their writing as JK Rowling...}
So, I've spent most of my short adult-life trying to find a job, struggle through uni, deal with depression, stress and anxiety disorders, and write to support my dream of being an author - 'cause it's just that, my dream. So, this is most likely the first of many cuts to the arts, 'cause it's easier - who cares about "artists" and their "hobbies", right?

Anyway, there's a petition to bring it back - doubt it'll make a difference so someone whose got his head stuck so far up his arse that he'll never even notice it, but, if you want to look...

Don't know if the Young Writers Award will go ahead either - even though it's part of the State Library - or the Writers' Festival. What's to stop them taking them away too?


And did I mention, it's the National Year of Reading? Just thought I'd share... Guess I'll be entering more British-based competitions from now on - at least they have some...
